Sports and Activities August 26 2011

Hi my name is Mr. Murray Te Huki, the Athletic and Activities Director at ISD. I was raised in New Zealand and I am an avid sportsman and very passionate about rugby. This is the year for the Rugby World Cup to be hosted in New Zealand. My family accompanies me at ISD, my wife Jennifer (Grade 1 Teacher) and my sons Taine (gr. 4) and Kairangi (gr. 1).

I am looking forward to developing further, the sports and activities programs on offer at ISD. I will also be teaching 2 sections of High School and 1 section of Middle School physical education.

 

  1. ASA- After School Activities Trimester 1: Starting Date-Monday September 19 and will run for 9 weeks.

Teachers will offer different activities and we have outside coaches and instructors who offer activities-e.g. –karate, swimming, tennis, fencing, circus arts, dance and we are in the process of contacting other instructors.

HELP NEEDED! If there are parents or you know of someone who could offer an activity, please contact me (murray@isd.sn). Some ideas-crafts, art, boys or girls’ scouts, music, dance and many more.

Information and sign up forms will be sent home the week of September 5.

 

2.     ISD Sports Teams:

 We look forward to having many of our MS and HS students turning out for our sports teams this year.

We will begin practices for the fall teams beginning Tuesday September 6 for HS Volleyball boys and girls and MS Soccer boys and girls. The swim team will start practices in the mornings 7am-8am beginning Tuesday September 19. The swim team is open to Grade 4 to 12 students (need to be competent swimmers). We will have practice schedules ready for the students next week.

We will be hosting the Waisal MS Volleyball boys and girls tournament at ISD-November 10-13. Our HS volleyball girls and boys teams will travel to Accra, Ghana for their WAISAL tournament-Thursday November 17-20.

  

3.     Swimming Classes:

The Kg to Grade 12 students will be involved in our swimming program beginning August 29 and ending October 21.The classes will be taught by swimming instructors and staff from the PE department. Elementary teachers will send home information regarding swimming and the schedule.

We will travel to a pool at the Club Atlantique, which is next to the school. All students are expected to take part, as this is part of the PE curriculum. If you have any questions please send us an email.

NB: MS and HS classes begin next week. Kindergarten to Grade 5 will begin classes the week of September 5

 

The students will need:

  1. A swimming cap-optional but is recommended if your child has long hair
  2. Flip flops to wear from changing room to pool.
  3. Swimming goggles.
  4. Swimming suit and towel.

 

4.     Middle School PE Uniforms

Thanks to Ms. Jodie Roderick and Mrs. Grainne MacRae for organizing PE uniforms for the Middle School students. The students look very smart and athletic.
