Sports and Activities-August 31 2012-Newsletter No. 1 Welcome to ISD the Home of the Jaguars! Hi my name is Mr. Murray Te Huki, the Athletic and Activities Director at ISD. I teach 2 sections of Grade 11/12 PE. My family accompanies me at ISD, my wife Jennifer (Grade 1 Teacher) and my sons Taine (Gr. 5) and Kairangi (Gr. 2). This is our 3rd year at ISD and we find Senegal and ISD great places. I am looking forward to further developing, the sports and activities programs on offer at ISD. Please feel free to contact me at school if you have any questions or ideas to make our programs even stronger.
1. ASA-
After School Activities Trimester 1:
Starting
Date-Monday October 1 and ends Friday November 23
Teachers will offer different
activities and we have outside coaches and instructors who offer
activities-e.g. –karate, swimming, tennis, fencing, circus arts, dance and we
are in the process of contacting other instructors.
HELP NEEDED! If there are parents or you know of someone who could offer
an activity, please contact me (murray@isd.sn).
Some ideas-crafts, art, boys or girls’ scouts, music, dance and many more.
Please let me know by September 7.
Information and sign up forms for
students will be sent home the week of September 10.

Sports Teams:
We look forward to having many of our Grades
4/5, MS and HS students turning out for our sports teams this year. Coaches
will have information for the students at their first practice.
We will begin practices for the
fall teams beginning Tuesday September 4. HS Volleyball boys@ 5pm and girls

The swim team is open to Grade 4 to
12 students (need to be competent swimmers).

WAISAL Tournaments (West African Schools Activities League)
We will be hosting the WAISAL Swim
Meet at ISD-November 1-4. ( we will need ISD families to provide homestays for students from the visiting schools) HS Volleyball girls and boys teams will travel to Ouagadougou,
Burkina Faso for their WAISAL tournament-Thursday November 15-18. MS
Soccer team travels to Abuja, Nigeria- for their WAISAL tournament November 29-December

3. Swimming Classes: The Kg to Grade 12 students will be involved in our swimming program beginning August 27 and ending November. The classes will be taught by swimming instructors and staff from the PE department. Elementary teachers will send home information regarding swimming and the schedule. All students are expected to take part, as this is part of the PE curriculum. If you have any questions please send us an email.
