We have two and a half weeks of school under our belt and hopefully we are all settling in very well. I have been very happy to meet many (new and returning) parents at the Opening ceremony, on campus and at the PTO Welcoming coffee last Tuesday. Thank you very much to the PTO for organizing this! At the Opening ceremony, I briefly presented the ISD Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for ensuring the financial stability of the school and establishing school policy. It also oversees use of school facilities, appoints the director of the school and plans strategically for the future of the school. The Board is made up of trustees and school administration. Trustees are volunteer parents or legal guardians of children enrolled at ISD. They are elected by the school community. Current Trustees are: Thiaba Camara Sy, Vesna de la Borde, James Garry, Jennifer Grant, Gráinne MacRae, Gilles Meura, Papa Ndiaye, Linda Percy and David Peterson. Please take a look at the Board page on the school’s website for more details on the Board. If you are interested in joining the ISD Board or one of its committees, contact us! (boardbox@isd.sn) Annual Board Retreat: ISD Board members have been busy this week preparing for the Board retreat – Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August. The annual retreat is a very important event for the Board. It is where Board members come together to focus on being an effective team. We receive training, define strategies and set annual goals. These two days of reflection, discussion and planning, aim to prepare us for the challenges and opportunities of the school year ahead, and to move us towards a higher level of performance for the benefit of ISD. Wishing you all an excellent weekend. Vesna de la Borde, Chair, ISD Board of Trustees |
