Board Meeting Highlights

The ISD Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting on February 16, 2017. Highlights of the meeting included:     · A further presentation about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP). The school is currently investigating whether to introduce this educational framework to ISD. Following last month’s presentation by two teachers on the staff committee looking at PYP (Brad Chumrau and Melissa Breiter), Director Alan Knobloch provided further information to the Board about the reasons for and against the model, what it means for students and teachers and the cost to implement. The Board will be making a decision on whether to go forward with PYP candidacy at the March Board meeting. (Please note: Parents who are interested in learning more are encouraged to attend one of the information sessions that Elementary Principal Kelly Chumrau has organised – please refer to the Elementary Principal’s report in the Jag Journal).     · Assistant to the Director, Suzanne Wardini gave a report on the progress of the construction of the Performing Arts Centre and new Gymnasium. The Board was able to review 3D plans and received an update on the timeline. Currently, the school is in the process of recruiting a project manager for the project.     · The Board also had its second reading of the 2017-2018 Budget and approved the budget unanimously. A reminder that the ISD Board of Trustees is a valuable way that parents can contribute to the life and governance of ISD. On April 20, the Annual General Meeting of the ISD Association will be held and I encourage you all to attend for an enjoyable evening that includes an update from the Director and myself about the status of the school. This year, 6 of the 9 Trustee positions are up for election and nominations will be accepted until March 17, 2017. Trustees must parents or guardians of current students at ISD, committed to upholding the guiding statements of the school.
