Introduction of New Members and Meeting Minutes

At the November Board meeting, we welcomed Jennifer Davis as a new Trustee, filling the vacancy that arose with Gilles Meura’s departure from Dakar. Jennifer is no stranger to school boards, having served five years on the school board in Madagascar, three of which she was Board Chair. A number of our volunteer Trustees also took on additional duties. Marie Blanchard is the new Board Secretary and James Garry is Chair of the joint Governance & Development / Policy Committee. The Board considered three motions at the meeting: · The school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year was approved. This will be uploaded on the ISD website and more detail is available in the Director’s Jag Journal report. · Year 2 components of the 5 year compensation plan for teachers was approved. Recruitment for teachers for next year is underway and this provides the parameters for the compensation packages that the school can offer. · The budget for the conversion of the gym into classrooms was approved. The work will begin over the winter school break so that the classrooms will be built in time for the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Full minutes of Board meetings are available on the ISD website and a hard copy is posted at the school’s entrance. Parents and guardians of ISD students and faculty are welcome to attend Board meetings as observers. The next Board meeting will be held at 6.00 on Thursday 8 December 2016 in the school’s conference room and you are most welcome to attend.
