The ISD Board of Trustees met on Tuesday 12 January for its first monthly meeting of 2016. Below are a few highlights from the meeting.

Newly elected Board Secretary: Gilles Meura
In accordance with ISD Bylaws Section VIII C, ISD trustees held an election for a new Board Secretary to take over from Jennifer Grant, who was elected Vice Chair last month. Gilles Meura was elected as the new Board Secretary. The Board congratulated Gilles on his election and thanked him for his continuing service to ISD.

Assistant to the Board: a new position filled
The ISD Board welcomed Anja Sebunya, who has been appointed to serve as assistant to the Board of trustees. Anja, who is a current ISD staff member, will be taking over administrative tasks related to the Board’s work.

School enrollment scenarios over the long-term
ISD director Dr Alan Knobloch made a presentation to the Board on school enrollment scenarios that illustrate the conditions under which potential ISD growth could be managed. These scenarios were developed by Dr Knobloch as part of the Board’s ongoing process of updating ISD’s master campus plan. One of the Board’s goals for 2015-2016 is to “examine optimal school enrollment and campus configuration” as part of a long-term vision. The enrollment scenarios are one of the building blocks in the Board’s work on this goal. Following the presentation, Board members laid the groundwork for a special February Board meeting devoted to reflection on this goal.

School Capital Budget
ISD Tech director John Wishart and Operations manager John Andrews attended the Board meeting to discuss the first draft of the 2016-2017 ISD capital budget. The draft budget features capital items (furniture, supplies, vehicles) that the school plans to purchase next year balanced against projected sources of revenue. Board members reviewed the budget.

Audited financial statements
The Board voted to approve the school’s audited financial statements for the 2014-2015 school fiscal year.

Parent Student Satisfaction Survey
Board members reviewed the questions that the Board of Trustees will be sending out to ISD students and parents for the annual Satisfaction Survey. This annual Survey, which students and parents will fill out online, will be conducted in early March. Its purpose is to gather parent and student feedback on our school, identify ISD’s areas of strength and areas for improvement, and provide the school Board and administration with information to help to continue to enhance ISD school programs and the learning environment.

Full minutes of the 12 January meeting will be available to the ISD community following approval by the Board in February 2016.
