The ISD Board of Trustees met on Thursday 5 November for its regular monthly meeting. Below are a few highlights from the meeting.

Accreditation
The Board acknowledged receipt of the Accreditation Preparatory Visit report. The report gives ISD “candidate status”, meaning that ISD has been approved to proceed with its re-accreditation self-study. The Board thanked ISD Director Dr Alan Knobloch and school faculty and administration, as well as ISD parents and students for their contributions to the success of the Preparatory visit. Strong leadership and a supportive parent community were highlighted as two of the strengths of ISD in the report. Dr Knobloch will share further details from the Preparatory Visit report with the ISD community.

ASA programs at ISD
Eric Rodine, Athletics and Activities Director, gave the Board a presentation on ASA programs at ISD. It underlined the high student participation in after school activities. Mr. Rodine reported on the priorities of the ASA program, which include providing purposeful coaching, finding even more opportunities for students to get involved in ASAs, deepening relationships with other schools in our community and offering leadership opportunities to students.

Faculty and Staff Compensation plan
The Board voted to approve a five-year Faculty and Staff Compensation Plan recommended by school administration, which provides for regular advancements on salary schedules for all ISD staff over the next five years. The goal of this compensation plan is to maintain and improve academic quality by attracting and retaining high quality faculty and staff to ISD. The Compensation Plan considers how ISD compares to benchmark comparable schools in the region and is an integral part of a long-term financial plan.

School calendar
The Board deliberated on the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school calendars. Community concerns about the school calendar were conveyed and discussed. While making every effort to take into account these concerns, the Board focused its attention on how best to meet the academic needs of ISD students. The school calendars will be discussed further at the December 2015 Board meeting.

Full minutes of the 5 November meeting will be available to the ISD community following approval by the Board in December 2015.
