Pages for Pikine

Dear ISD Community,

I am writing to tell you about “Pages for Pikine”, a collaboration with the MS Student Council, the grade six classes and the PTO. Our aim is to provide our sister school in Pikine with both school supplies and a mobile library. We hope to achieve this goal through a two-step process.

The first step is to conduct a School-Wide Book Drive from February 7-25. During this time, all classes (K-12) will collect as many books as possible. The books can be in any language, for any age, and should be in decent condition. The class that collects the greatest number of books will receive a prize! We will give one prize to the elementary class with the highest number of donations and another prize to the MS/HS class with the greatest number of books.

The second step will be an ISD Book Sale! The Middle School Student Council will sort and separate all of the donated books into those appropriate to be sent directly to Pikine and those that should be sold. (The books that will be donated to the school in Pikine include those that are in French and suitable for elementary kids.)  Those books that are not age or language appropriate for the students  in Pikine shall be sold sell within the ISD school community for a nominal fee. The proceeds from the sale will be used to buy more French children’s books and other school supplies. The dates for the Book Sale will be determined at a later date, though we will put up flyers to notify the community when this will take place.

We hope that you will help us to make this a worthwhile event, one that will truly benefit our sister school in Pikine as well as the ISD community by sharing books, one of the most important sources of learning for people of all ages. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Sincerely,

Ada Sow

President of Middle School Student Council
