2012 ISD Talent Show Information

If you want to be in the ISD Talent Show, please read the following information very carefully!

This year, the ISD Talent Show will be a bit of a different than in years past.  The show itself will be held in the evening in the gym on Friday, May 25 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.   Acts that are particularly excellent will then be asked to perform as part of a special ISD Talent Showcase to be held in the final weeks of the school year.

The purpose of the ISD Talent Show is to provide a venue for ISD students in grades 3-12 to demonstrate their talents while encouraging them to take responsibility for the preparation and cultivation of skills needed to perform well.  To make this happen, students who wish to perform on the talent show must go through an application process which will lead them to be reflective on their preparations, provide them with feedback early on, and be prepared early for the show.  The application process is as follows:

·       Monday, April 30 – The sign-up sheet for auditions (May 14-18) will be posted on the door of Mr. Watters’ classroom (to your right when walking in the ISD gate) and will remain up for two weeks.

·       May 14-18 (Mon., Tues., Wed., Fri. – Thurs. is a holiday)) before and after school (8:00-8:30 and 3:30-5:00) – Auditions for the Talent Show.  Students may not audition at any time but during this week.  To audition, students must:

o   Fully complete the Talent Show Application and bring it to the audition (this can also be submitted to Mr. Watters any time before the audition).

o   Come to the audition with the act fully prepared with all performers present, using all equipment needed, and using the recordings to be used on the show.  Students may not change the performers in the act, the content (song, dance routine, etc.), equipment used, or recordings used after the audition.  If changes need to be made in any of these areas, performers will need to withdraw their application and resubmit it again as a new act.  If costumes are not ready by the audition, they can be drawn and/or described on the application.

§  Students will receive feedback on their act at the audition based on the ISD Talent Show Judging Sheet.  If they score less than 30/50, Mr. Watters will provide the students with specific criteria to fix before they can be allowed to perform on the Talent Show.  Acts showing signs of considerable improvement in the specific criteria mentioned before they will be allowed to perform on the Talent Show.  All acts which do not show enough improvement will not be allowed to perform on the Talent Show.

§  All songs to be sung with a recording should use a proper instrumental track for that song.  Students may not sing over the singer’s voice.  If students need help finding a good instrumental track for their song, Mr. Watters will be happy to help them find one before their audition (preferably any time before May 14).

o   Leave with Mr. Watters all music recordings needed for the performance.

·       May 21-24 (Monday to Thursday) after school – Mr. Watters will hear the acts that scored less than 30/50 and will determine if they meet the criteria needed to perform on the show.

·       May 25 at 3:30 p.m. – Required sound check for all Talent Show performers.  Students who do not come to the sound check will not perform that evening.

·       May 25 at 6:00 p.m. – The Talent Show begins!

If any of these steps are not followed, students will not be allowed to perform on the Talent Show.

Please contact Mr. Watters for more information at 70-742-7181 or tony@isd.sn.
