What is Senegal Week and World Cultural Month?
 SENEGAL WEEK
| It is a month of educational and cultural activities providing all countries represented in our school with the opportunity to celebrate the respective cultures and traditions within our community (the students, teachers and parents) both in the classrooms and around campus.
World Culture Month is a month for building a bridge connecting all our different communities in an atmosphere of communion, of sharing, of discovering other people and other lifestyles. This year we once again invite all parents to participate in our month long activities. From April 5th to April 8th, the focus will be on the host country Senegal, with varied information and activities offered to the school community; and, for the rest of the month, from April 11th to April 28th, the rest of the world will be celebrated through our respective countries represented in the school. Parents are invited to do this by volunteering to spend 15-20 minutes in their child’s classroom and in other classrooms if possible, sharing something about their culture. High school students, as part of their service program, will also be invited to present their countries to classes.
This can be done through presenting videos, doing book readings, songs, storytelling, posters and pictures, bringing in foods, costumes/clothing, toys, etc. You can imagine the immense pride each child feels when they see their parents (or, grandparent, aunt, uncle) stand before their class, and talk about the culture and country they are from. These are the moments children, and parents, remember for years to come.
There is another activity we invite you to take part in. We invite you to register for the booths that will be set up around campus on the last day of World Culture Month, April 29th..(You will be assisted by high school students who will act as your assistants if necessary). The booths will be set up to display your countries to our international community, especially for the students to see and appreciate. The booths can display any facet of the country’s culture: folklore, history, geography, cuisine, fashion, art, etc. The more facets, the merrier! Parents, your participation is so important to the success of this event. It is you, who will bring the richness and personal impact to this wonderful adventure. Don’t feel limited to only your child’s classroom. We welcome your participation as often as possible. |  World Cultural Month
