Hi all, Would you (adults and/or students) like to play an instrument in an "ISD Community Orchestra" this school year? Please keep reading! I am investigating how many adults and students there are in our community who already play a band or orchestra instrument, and who would be willing to play in a group here at ISD. Rehearsals would be before and/or after school with possible evening rehearsals (not too often). The group would play for community events and on other concerts at school and around town. There seems to be a lot of talk about wanting this type of music ensemble in this community. At this point, we do not have the equipment or the scheduling set up to teach students who are beginners on band or orchestra instruments. This ensemble will be for adults and students in our community who already have played their instrument for at least 1 year (even a few years ago). The musicians will also need to be able to provide their own instrument although Mr. Watters has a few instruments to loan out. I have experience as a band director at my previous school in Laos where I began the program there. Last year (2012-13), I attempted to form an ensemble like the one I am proposing here, but got only 4 students who said that they were willing to play. I arranged music for the ensemble and we rehearsed and performed. Since it was so time intensive and there were only a few students, I decided to discontinue the program. Now, I am trying this again, but on a larger scale. Please click below for more information and to fill out a survey expressing your or your child's interest in being in an instrumental ensemble at ISD: If you want this program to begin and you know of adults and students who would like to be a part of it, please spread the word! I will keep the survey open only a few weeks and then make a decision along with the administration on the viability of this program. Questions? Please come and see me or email me at tony@isd.sn .
