Dear Parents and ISD Community,

We are now completing our second week of classes with students and teachers getting into the swing of things.  A couple of our sports teams have begun their practices, including the swim team gathering early in the morning before classes.  We are continuing to receive new students, some anticipated, and others showing up, so our enrollment continues to grow.

The PTO Welcome Coffee drew a number of new parents to our campus, where they learned about PTO plans for the school year, and school administrators outlined academic programs and events.  This was held in our new conference room upstairs in the administrative building, complete with a terrace view of the ISD campus.

This weekend the Board will hold a retreat with John Ritter, a consultant who has worked with previous ISD boards in outlining the roles and responsibilities of the board and administration.  Goals for this school year will be discussed and determined during the retreat as well.  Given this extended weekend session, the regular Board meeting scheduled for the month has been put forward one week.  It will take place on September 12th.  The agenda for the meeting will be published in next week’s Jaguar Journal.

These activities, along with the regular start up process of the new school year, have my full attention as I learn all about ISD and seek ways to improve the school over the course of the year.  It is exciting to become involved with a new school community and a new city.  With this steep learning curve, the more I learn, the better I’ll be of service to ISD.

Sincerely,

Paul Olson
