Dear Parents, As ever, we reach the end of a year where we have seen more growth and change. I met with the Grade 5 students on Tuesday, to ask them about next year and more importantly to read to them Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. The book talks about choosing the right path and to not worry about slumps that may be ahead. Plenty of metaphors suggesting that we should always stick with our ideas. They showed me so much hope that we are teaching them the right values, and they'll be a great team up there in the MS. Next year will bring a couple of changes to the school that I would like to relate to you. Firstly, due to exceptional growth in the age group we will be adding a third Grade 1 class. This will necessitate some classes moving; in short, a Gr 2 class will move upstairs, a Gr 4 class will move to room 104 in the Secondary building and the new Gr 1 will be in a Gr 2 room, near the other Gr 1 classes. All furniture and resources will move with the classes, of course. More will be shared in due course. Secondly, the 2014-15 Opening Ceremony will be on Monday August 18, starting at 8:45. Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students will go straight to their classes to meet the teachers at 8:45 (not go to the gym). Please try to be creative with parking, especially if you have a driver. There will be guards on the road and this will be the first day of the 2014-15 school year. Thirdly, after all the children have left the gym, we'll be hearing from Dr. Alan Knobloch, our incoming Director, to be followed by a PTO Welcome Coffee; also in the gym. Sorry, no ices, as the children will all be working! Finally, today we had our farewell assembly to say au revoir to faculty and students who are leaving the school. I was keen to mention that au revoir means "until I see you again", according to those better than I. We also shared this musical treat, which has a lot of pictures from the year: So, if you are departing, we truly wish you well - please come and see us again if and when you have a chance. To those returning, we'll see you August 18 at 8:45, Happy and safe travels from all of us at ISD, Ian Clark Ian Clark Ed.D. Elementary School Principal International School of Dakar |
