Dear Parents,

We begin our third term in busy fashion with WCM beginning, Senegalese Art classes, and a Science Fair to end the week. Please read on for news of these and updates on upcoming events - plenty for next week alone!

K-5 Communal Lunch - Tuesday 16 IMPORTANT: On Tuesday 16 April, all the K-5 classes will enjoy a communal Senegalese lunch in their class groups. Students should not bring a lunch in on that day, and the school is funding the lunch. We will be served thieb yapp (rice and meat) and cooked vegetables (legumes sautés), and we'll dine under the trees. PLEASE LET YOUR TEACHER KNOW IF THERE WILL BE AN ISSUE FOR YOUR CHILD DINING WITH US.

WCM Opening Ceremony: We gathered as a whole school to enjoy some musical performances at the Opening Ceremony of the World Cultural Month.

Senegalese Art Week: A central piece to the Elementary School WCM is Senegalese Art Week. This involves art sessions in grade level classes where artisans have visited to teach their skills to the grades. We will be showing off our creations in the Art Show on Thursday April 18 - it will be open all day in the gym, so please come along! As a note, this will also be Ms. Valdmanis's last few weeks at ISD, as she will be leaving to live in Boston at the end of the month. She was our K-3 Art teacher the last two years, and now teaches Gr 2. We wish Kelly and her family all the best with her move!!

Senegalese Outfit Day - Thursday 18: On Thursday, as we will be celebrating the Senegalese Arts in the gym, we are also asking children to wear Senegalese dress that day, if they wish. This is for MS and HS students, too, so we look forward to some wonderful fashion items coming to school!

Booths: Another request from Mr. Gaucher for people to staff booths on the morning of April 26 on WCM's final day. Contact him at gaucher@isd.sn if you would like to run a country booth.

Gr 5 & 6 Science Fair: Today, Ms. Hill and Mr. Kinkhabwala's Science Club students presented their projects at the Science Fair. All classes in the ES paid a visit to learn more about the scientific method. Ms. Hill's students will go on to represent ISD in the NESA Virtual Science Fair:

Earth Day: On Monday, April 22, the ES will celebrate Earth Day. We request that children come to school wearing GREEN. We will enjoy a variety of activities that day, that I will outline next week, but start looking for some green clothes!!
