Dear Parents,

We hope you had a relaxing break last week. This week, we are straight back to work, as we enter a very busy term. We had a great assembly to kick off World Cultural Month, and we are in the midst of our Senegalese Art Week sessions. More below....

Notes:

1. Tuesday, April 12 - Dress-up Day!: A reminder that on Tuesday next week, we'll have two fun events; Senegalese dress-up day and our communal lunch under the trees. Please don't order or send a lunch on that day.

2. K-5 Field Day: Movie Mr. Bowler made this great video of last week's event. Enjoy....

3. Summer Camp: You should have received a sign-up letter about the summer camps today. If there is enough interest, we'll add a third week. Sign-up is with Francois in the admin office from Monday, April 11:

4. Board Elections: You will receive news about not only voting for the board elections, but as an incentive, for every vote, you may help your children have a pizza party. The class with the most parents voting will earn one, and a letter will go home today as a reminder to vote - and send in signed as proof you have voted!

Every parent has their own vote (e.g. a 2 parent family has 2 votes). For the pizza contest, only one parent’s signature on the form is needed even if both parents have voted. Only one form per child. If you have more than one child, please return a separate form for each of your children so that each child’s class will receive credit for your vote in the contest.

5. Booths for April 29: Mr. Gaucher will soon be asking for volunteers to run country booths on the 29th April (gaucherk@faculty.isd.sn) - please speak with him if you are interested. We'd like to have over 20 booths this year!

6. Upcoming World Cultural Month Events:

- APRIL 7 - APRIL 14 - SENEGAL ARTS WEEK Glass painting - sand painting - batik - recycling during art class.

- APRIL 12 - CULTURAL LUNCH & LOCAL OUTFIT DAY ISD sponsors the lunch for the elementary department. Students are encouraged to dress up in Senegalese wear.

- APRIL 28 - BAZAAR (Day 1) - 9:00 am - 4:30 pm Local artists and artisans are invited on campus for your summer shopping.

- APRIL 29 - CLOSING CEREMONY  2:00 pm - 3:10 pm • Country booths visited by students • Parade of the nations • Elementary school performance • Concert • World items exhibitions • Bazaar (Day 2)

7. ASA's Begin: A reminder that ASA's begin on Monday 11th. Pick-up will be at 4:10.

8. A Thought: Just a message on the theme of growth mindsets, which is something that I spoke about and handed fliers about at the recent parent coffee drop-in. It is essentially where one can praise for effort rather than purely for intelligence. Here is an interesting video on praise, reflecting this philosophy:
