Dear Parents, It is assembly and performance season at ISD. On the back of the Musical Picnic, we had two wonderful assemblies and look forward to our ASA assembly on Monday. I'll share more on the year at a Parent Coffee and we are all excitedly preparing for our conferences in two weeks. More on all this below.... I must also add a reminder that we have postponed Saturday's Gaucher Soccer Tournament. We'll reschedule, but following the advice of our nurse and other agencies in the short term is for the best. Notes: 1. After School Activities End Today: Just to note that if you have no catch-up session, today was the last day for ASA's. 2. After School Activities Assembly - Monday, March 2: Here is the program: 1. Dance-Ballet 2. Dance Hip Hop 3. Fencing 4. Taekwondo 5. Karate 6. Circus Arts 7. Drumming Do come if you can - 3:40pm, in the gym. 3. ES Parent Coffee - Tuesday, March 3: We'll talk about upcoming events such as...: - STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES, MAP TEST GRAPH DATA, WORLD CULTURAL MONTH, FIELD DAY, SAMUSOCIAL, CCSS, NEW REPORT CARDS BEING DESIGNED, EARTH DAY and a couple of videos. We'll meet in the Conference Room from 8:40am, and there'll be coffee. 4. Pre-K Parent Conferences and K-5 Student-led Conferences: In two weeks we have our conferences. There is a difference between the formats; our Pre-K parents will have regular parent/teacher conferences, and the K-5 will have Student-led Conferences. if you have not experienced these before, I'll have a presentation on these on Tuesday at the Parent Coffee, with more to follow next week. Please note that: - ALL STUDENTS ATTEND THE K-5 STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES WITH THEIR PARENTS - STUDENTS DO NOT ATTEND THE PRE-K PARENT CONFERENCES; ONLY PARENTS 5. SIPS Dates: Good luck to all who are competing in the SIPS events: - Wed March 4: SIPS X Country-Hann Park-Bus departs ISD @ 2:30pm and will return between 6:30pm/7pm - Friday March 6: SIPS Track and Field-Medina (Iba Mar Diop or Medina Stadium-Madina Area-Near Tilene Market-University Avenue toward downtown) Bus will depart ISD @ 7:45am and return by 4pm 6. Musical Picnic Photos & PTO Facebook Page: We had a lot of fun at the Musical Picnic, with some great acts and well-rehearsed performances. Family Values Workshop Follow-up: If you missed the parent workshop presented by Susie Brown and Pam Pelliccia on February 24th here are the handouts (attached at the bottom). In the workshop parents identified their family values, wrote guiding principles and developed an action plan to help instil their values in their children. 8. Assemblies This Week: We had two great assemblies this week. Thursday's was 1T who showed us how to debate the merits of Horton and Maisie (I am for Horton): While on Friday we were entertained by an environmentally themed play and quiz! 9. Seussical Tickets: Please do reserve your tickets online or purchase them after school. The shows are on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 and Friday and Saturday March 13-14 on the MSHS amphitheater stage. 10. JaguArts: Please do feel free to come and explore the visual and performing art work of the Secondary School students on the evening of March 2 from 5:30pm in the MSHS Amphitheater. 11.
