As I mentioned 2 weeks ago, I am currently in Boston at the third of the job fairs Alan Knobloch and I are attending. We have met many exciting and innovative teachers, and we have almost completed the roster of new teacher hires for next year. School has been busy, and I am receiving plenty of updates from all the faculty. I have notes below, and I look forward to being back on campus on Monday. Notes: 1. Elementary Musical Picnic - February 20: Ms. Joy tells me rehearsals are going well, and we look forward to the event later this month. Please bring blanket and a picnic and enjoy the entertainment. 2. 1O Assembly: This week, we have the assembly for Ms. Ogg's class. Your teachers will let you know if your child is to receive a CORE award. 3. Marcel Zaragoza: Next week, the classes in Grades K-3 will enjoy a visit from Marcel Zaragoza. He is a great French entertainer and he'll be telling stories and getting the children up singing with him. These sessions take place during the French lessons. 4. PD 1/2 Day Upcoming: Friday, February 13 is our PD 1/2 day. At this time we will be continuing the work on our new standards-based report card for next year - I will be sharing the progress at an upcoming Elementary Parent Coffee later in the month. 5. WAIST Weekend: Monday, February 16 is a non-school day. You may see many people on the school grounds playing softball. This weekend there are volunteers who have been working in the region who come to Dakar for a softball tournament at Ebbetts Field and the school grounds. 6. Recent Assemblies: Last week, both Ms. Guillaume's Class and Ms. Sakho's class held assemblies, and here are some of their photographs. 7. Parade of Nations: One of the annual Gr 1 traditions is a parade of nations which is the climax to one of their social studies units. Here are the children with their floats making their way around the track. 8. Grade 5 Publishing Party: Ms. Sakho and Mrs. Gallagher's classes celebrated some pieces of writing that they had completed with their parents. Here they are a week ago in the library: 9. Reading Buddies: We always try to have peers help others; one example can be seen in the reading buddies program that all classes utilize. Here are the Gr 5 children with the Gr 1 kids: Upcoming Events: - Feb. 13: 1/2 Day PD - Feb. 14-16: WAIST Softball Tournament - Feb. 16: SCHOOL CLOSED - Feb. 18: Gr 2-5 MAP Tests Begin - Feb. 19: Board Meeting - Feb. 20: Elementary Musical Picnic - Feb. 21: Gr 3-12 Track & Field Meet at ISD Ian Clark Ian Clark Ed.D.
