Elementary News: February 8

Dear Parents,

I am currently in chilly Boston, and it seems that snow is on the way, too. Ms. Gage and I are attending a recruiters fair here, where we are looking for the last few new faculty for next year. When talking about the things that make ISD special during our presentation to the attendees, this is always a time when I reflect proudly on how fortunate we are to be working in our school. We will also be sharing a wonderful new video about ISD that was created by HS students, which I will share with you when it is placed on the web site.

2 Days to Bruce Coville: We are really looking forward to introducing Bruce to the school at our Reading Week opening assembly on Monday. East Coast weather permitting, we will both be there for 9:00am Monday in the gym!

Decorated Doors: You will see some beautifully decorated doors in the ES building - the theme is Bruce Coville's books. Classes are working extra hard to try and compete with the usual creative 3D efforts. While we do try to maintain more intrinsic ways to encourage excellence, in this case Mr D seems to be on a run of late, and the classes are after his decorated door title!

Elementary School Field Day: We will be holding our Elementary School Field Day on Thursday March 28 - this is the last day before Spring Break. In the run-up to the big day, Mr. Te Huki will communicate with you the color of the team your child will be in.

Enrollment Survey: Please ensure that you have completed the school enrollment survey, whether you plan on staying at ISD or will be leaving at the end of this school year. If you already filled out the form, you do NOT need to do so again. Your responses will help us plan out 2013-14 school year, regarding staffing and other budget projections. It is attached at the bottom of this page.

Professional Development Afternoons: We have a PD afternoon coming up next Friday Feb. 15. In these afternoons, the faculty spend time in schools, groups or grade teams, attending presentations or being given guidance on new methodologies. We do appreciate your support with these afternoons, which are common in international schools where there are always many trained faculty who can lead workshops. As we did this school year, in September 2013, we are planning for two full days PD when we will have visits from two consultants who will also add value to our programs.

Mardi Gras Shoes and Crepes: Our French department will be sending home information about some Mardi Gras shoe and crepe fun! They are encouraging the children to take part in a fancy shoe parade, and they'll also be handing out a crepe or two at the end of Tuesday next week. Crepes will be served at the Paillote (hut in MS/HS building).... and thank you if you are to be cooking!
