Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! If you are one of our many families new to ISD, welcome!! I hope your break was a good one; the children seem ready for the new challenges in class, with a lot of energy. This is a brief posting with just a few updates, and I'll have more next week.

Notes:

1. Gr 3-5 Samusocial Visits Begin: This week, 3C starts our program with Samusocial;  an organization that helps street children. Our students will spend two one-hour sessions at the center as a class, and as a grade they will host an event at ISD for the children they have been with. As this is a service learning project, we try and structure activities that will overcome language barriers, allow team work to occur, and we try to "add value" to their program. The children learn a lot from each other while, most importantly, having fun.

2. SIPS Athletics Training: The Sports Invitational for Private Schools is an annual athletics event which includes students in Gr 3-5. Training is on Thursday after school, and the event takes place on Feb 26-28. A lot of students turned up this week, but the more the merrier (and faster).

3. After School Activities Begin: On Monday next week we begin Trimester 2 ASAs. If you are a new family and have yet to find information, these run for K-5 students, and see Emefa for more details, as there are always spaces free.

4. Friday is 12:00 Pick-up: On the afternoon of Friday January 17, the teachers will be working on Professional Development activities. Please pick your child up at 12:00 prompt. If you see tired teachers on Monday, this may be because we have Google workshops running through 5:00 Friday, and all day Saturday. Followed by MAP Training for more teachers on Monday and Tuesday. The MAP training is designed to enable faculty to make more from the data we receive to further support our program. Nice to be busy.

5. ES Parent Workshop: On Tuesday, February 11, ES Counselor Pam Pelliccia will be hosting a workshop entitled "Teaching Your Child Control and Discipline". It will be in the Conference Room in the admin. building - there will be coffee. More details to follow.

6. No Day Off Next Week: Finally, just to note that we do not take any days off until February 17. So we are at school all next week - 12:00 pick-up Friday. The online calendar is HERE
