Dear Parents, Welcome to ISD, or welcome back after your break! We are looking forward to a very busy term, as the Spring session is where the well-practiced work we have been doing really gets going. This semester we are looking forward to the musical coming soon, followed by our musical picnic, World Cultural Month and Earth Day; with plenty of assemblies and other events in between. We will also getting ready for the second battery of MAP tests for Gr 2-5, given in February. Notes: 1. New Student Session with Ms. Pam: Our 11 new students who arrived this week met with Ms. Pam and me at lunchtime Friday. As part of the transition to ISD program, Pam read the story below to the children over lunch, and we talked about how this relates to the move the children have made. Click the book to see more; it is a valuable way to frame a discussion on change and you may find it useful when a move is to happen: 2. Transitions Note: On the same subject, here are a few sites that new parents in particular might find interesting: More about helping kids thrive during transitions: http://www.thecultureblend.com/?p=1056 And then there is this one about expats left behind: http://www.thecultureblend.com/?p=1482 Here are two other links you may find useful that I have shared previously: TCKWorld.com Interactionintl.org http://www.ori-and-ricki.net/ (this one is also for kids) 3. New Parent Book Group!!: Parents are invited to participate in a book group led by Ms. Pam that meets three Tuesday mornings in January, February, and March. The new book, recommended by a parent, is Brain Child, by Tony Buzan: Click HERE for a link for more. 4. School Photos: Due to a glitch in the external printing process, I have been informed that the student photos will not now be available until the new year. If you are leaving, please speak with Ms. Emefa about the next steps. 5. Recycling: One more quick reminder that we do have recycling happening at school, coordinated by HS students.
