Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed the three recent concerts as much as we did. The Pre 3 & 4 children entertained us with songs from their classes, Grades K-3 took us on a vocal world tour, and the 4 & 5th Grades were central to a production with Grades 6, 7 & 8. Thanks go out to Nathan Fuhr and Becca Brink for all they have done this year, and also to Linda Bockarie and Marjorie Miller for their help in putting these events together. In addition, we are now entering the last "week and a bit", projects are being completed, and I would like to remind you that Monday June 13, ISD will be closed for a Senegalese Holiday for Pentecost.

Other notes:

1.  Library Books Due: Please start hunting for school library books. These are due back and Ms. Siegel will begin inventory and checking the stock.

2.  4th Grade Trip to Thies: The 4th Grade recently visited Thies for an overnight field trip:

4th Grade Thies Trip

3.  Spirit Wear Holiday Gifts: What better gift for family than an ISD Jaguar shirt! The Spirit Shop will be open today and next Friday after school.

4.  Elementary School Coaches: We owe a big thanks at ISD to those teachers who also coach our ES, MS and HS sports teams. Here are our multi-talented Elementary School staff and the sports they coach:

Basketball: 4/5 and MS/HS-Patrick Ramsay, 4/5-Rebecca Desvaux

Volleyball: 4/5-Crystal Thomas, Celeste Mason, MS, Niassa Harris Henry,

Soccer-4/5: Abdoulaye Ndione and Sidi Atiase

Track and Field-3-6: Jasmeen Philen

Swimming: Noah Balazs

HS Soccer and Volleyball: Darren Donauer

Gaucher Kadam: MS Basketball

Jodie Roderick: MS Boys and Girls and HS Girls Soccer

5.  Postcard Request: If you are looking for a short-term writing project for your kids, please think of sending postcards to me at the school address! I'd love to cover my wall with some pictures of the places you visit through the summer break.

6.  Pre-3 Assembly: Ms. Marje's class recently entertained us at an assembly, with their wonderful singing:

Ms. Marje's Class Assembly

7.  Birthday Lunches: We had our June & July Birthday Lunches this week. Here are the two groups who shared their birthday plans with me (and were given an early birthday pencil):

8.  Astronaut at ISD: Scott Parazynski visited the school today, and he told us of some of his adventures. Scott is a 5-times Space shuttle astronaut, and he has also conquered Everest:

Scott is in town as an alum of Dakar Academy, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this week. He offered to speak to our children in Grades 2-6. It was pretty cool listening to the things he has done, and the spacewalks he has made! One of them on a pole the length of the gym out from the Space Station. Scott's web site is HERE

9. Upcoming Events:

- June 4: 7:00 Haware Night (Gym)

June 10: 2pm Talent Show (Gym)

- June 16: Final Day (noon dismissal and report cards sent home)

and.....

- August 22: 2:00 Opening Ceremony for school year 2011-12!

Regards,

Ian Clark
