Dear Parents,

I hope you found your conferences valuable, and that they helped you see some of your child's growth through the year. There is always so much to cover, and if you are a K-5 parent and would like an individual appointment with your child's teacher, we are more than happy to arrange that. Next week is very busy, and more below. One item to note in particular is that we have assemblies with Pre-K 4 B on Wednesday and 3D on Thursday.

Notes:

1. Elementary Musical Picnic: Please come with your picnics to the field on Wednesday 19th. From 4:00, there will be assorted performances from the K-5 students to entertain you:

2. Student-Led Conferences - Teacher Meetings: We hope you found the reflections on your child's progress informative. If your child had a student-led conference and you still wish to speak with your child's teacher independently; please do get in touch and arrange a meeting. We believe in the value of the child being at the center of the reflection process, and we do meet with all parents at other times through the year - not only at conference times.

3. ASA Assembly Photos: Click HERE for some pictures from our recent ASA assembly. Thanks as ever to Mr. Te Huki for coordinating these, and to the faculty who run the majority of the sessions after school.

4. Calendar News: As you will know, the Board has set the 2014-15 calendar. Click HERE for the calendar. There is some additional information that the Board shared last week that relates to a new model first day, with the opening ceremony at 8:45 in the morning of Monday August 18 2014. The students would then go to classes to continue a regular day of school.

5. Field Day:  On Friday 21st next week, we are having the Elementary School Field Day. The Pre-K have their own activities in the morning, involving art and games. The K-5 have a full-day program with parents welcome to come and cheer:

- 11:00: Teams gathering in the gym

- 11:30-11:45: Activities on the field - round one

- 1:15-2:00: Activities on the field - round two

The activities are all inclusive, take place all over the field at different stations, and we mix the teams to give all the children an equal chance to participate.

6. Francophonie Day: On the afternoon of Thursday, March 20, there will be special assemblies in the afternoon, to celebrate Francophonie Day. The French teachers and HS students have been working with many Elementary students and High School students to put this together. At the MS/HS amphitheater, the performance by and for Gr 2-5 starts at 1:00. Parents are invited to attend the event which includes songs, dances and sketches. There is also an in-class celebration for the K & Gr 1 students.

7. 4S Assembly: Here are some images of the recent assembly from Mr. Schultz's class:

9. World Cultural Month: Mr. Gaucher has already been sending out requests for parents to staff the booths of nations on the final day of April 25. Please email him at gaucher@isd.sn for more information.

10: Pre-K 4 Movie: Here is a fun project linking Ms. Melindas's class to technology. They told the story of the Three Little Pigs:

11. Book Sale: Next week after school, please come along and purchase some books; the first session of sales is 3:30 Monday. These are the books that were gathered over the last few weeks - thanks to the PTO for running this.

12. Gr 5 Transition to MS: The grade 5 team has coordinated many transition activities and lessons for their students as they prepare to move to the middle school to talk about physical, social and emotional changes. This year, these activities have included an online career exploration game helps students learn more about themselves, higher education and careers. This free educational tool lets kids answer a series of questions about themselves to learn what careers could interest them and then go on a virtual drive to learn more about each of those careers – all in their own customized car. If you would like to see how this program works ask your child to log in at www.driveofyourlife.org or go to the site and view the demo.
