Dear Parents, We enjoyed an assembly and the May Birthday Lunch this week, and next week we have our eagerly anticipated summer concerts. We'll also be sending Gr 2-5 MAP results home, and the students are getting ready for their DELF French exams on Wednesday afternoon. More below.... Notes: 1. Summer Concerts: The concerts are upon us next week on Wednesday and Thursday: ISD SUMMER CONCERTS K-2 Summer Concert & Art Exhibition: Wednesday, May 20 at 6:00pm 3-5 Summer Concert & Art Exhibition: Thursday, May 21 at 6:00pm STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED AT THE STAGE BY 5:45PM 2. Gr 2-5 MAP Testing Results Going Home: MAP testing results head home next week. I would like to share the link to the NWEA's PARENT TOOLKIT, which may be of interest in particular to new ISD parents. We always hold follow-up meetings with faculty to discuss the results of all these sets of tests and reflect on how the year progressed for all of our students. 3. Class Stories: I'll be spending time with all the classes reading stories and hearing about how everyone's year has progressed. This session really is one of my favorite things to do, and please ask your child about the stories we read - I try to pick something on the theme of ending the year, and being proud of who we are! 4. DELF Exam: On May 20, many of our Gr 3-5 students will take part in the DELF Prim. This is coordinated by our French team, and students will leave school at 1pm. On Wednesday, the DELF will take place downtown at 'rue Parchappe' near the French Embassy. DELF Prim and DELF Junior are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the proficiency in French as a Foreign Language of children aged 8 to 12 for DELF prim and 12 to 18 for DELF Junior. In Senegal, the French Institute has the responsibility to organize these exams. A purpose of this is to reward our children with his/her first diploma of French. The DELF certificate also will allow your child to opt out for a French university's language entrance exam if he/she received the B2 diploma. For more information click HERE. 5. ISD Yard Sale: This is from our facilities manager, John Andrews - see you Sunday: 6. Gr 3-5 Disco: There will be a Disco running from 6:00-8:30pm after school on Friday, May 29. The cost is 1,000cfa, it is in the gym, and it is only for Gr 3-5 students. 7. HS Can Crushers: There is now a box at the gate for recycling ALL metal cans. Please send them in and don't throw in your trash at home! This is a HS-inspired project from Alain, Nicolas and Enno! Dear Parents, We are a group of students who are engaging in a community service project. We are collecting all sorts of cans to recycle. As a part of our numerous endeavors, we would like students to bring cans from home to school and drop them in one of the recycling bins (next to the monitor at the entrance). We will then clean, crush and store the collected cans at ISD. Parents please encourage your children to participate, and students, participate in the project yourself! Doing this will save the environment and create jobs for people in Senegal. Thank you in advance, The Can Crushers (Alain, Nicolas and Enno) 8. IB Yr 1 Performance: This is from Emily Grimes, the IB Year 1 Drama teacher: The play is mainly suited to adults and older students, though Emily tells me while Gr 4 & 5 children may keep up with the fast-moving plot lines, there are obviously occasional murders....9.
