Dear Parents, The busy month of May continues, and on Thursday we were entertained at a Circus Arts assembly. There was also the wonderful HS Cabaret to savour, a KG S Poetry Slam, trips and the 1st Grade publishing party. I'm lucky to be invited to many of these celebrations of progress! Given all the activities, class work and evaluative assessments that we continue to pursue, please don't forget that our school year ends at 12:00 on June 16! This is the day yearbooks and report cards are given, and when good friends and teachers who are moving on will wish to say goodbye. Our curriculum is based on a full year, and classes will, of course, be working through the final week, so we do expect all to be here right through that last week. Other notes: 1. 1st Grade Writing Celebration: Here are a few snaps from our recent writing celebration in the 1st Grade. I loved hearing the stories the children had produced: 2. Next Year's Calendar: There is a link to the calendar for next school year HERE. For those of you who joined us mid-year, our Opening Ceremony at 2:00 on Monday, August 22 is a chance for us to get together (and enjoy some ice-cream!). This is also the day when the children learn their new teachers for the year. 3. Library Books: Ms. Siegel will soon start sending reminders for you to return the library books from the year. Please remember that each child's report card is only handed when all their books are returned. 4. Tomatoes!: Mr. D and his green fingered 3rd Graders have produced a remarkable 335 tomatoes. That's 6kg worth, and was a great opportunity for some real-life math: 5. Soccer Invitational: The ISD Soccer Invitational is running Friday and Saturday. Here is the schedule if you'd like to go and cheer! 6. Report Cards: The third trimester report cards will be handed out on the last day of school. 7. HS Cabaret: Here are a couple of pics from this week's HS Cabaret. One is the whole ensemble (who were amazing), the other features a duet we were lucky to snag to perform featuring Mr. Rutherford on vocals and Mr. Bryant on keyboards. 9. 3rd Culture Kids: Many of our children's sense of "home" may be very different to ours as we grew up; they may be in a second country and also a different educational system to their home country. Your children may be part of a group that some term "3rd culture children", and this may be something you have thought of in the past. Here are a few sites that you might find interesting: TCKWorld.com Interactionintl.org and Ori and Ricki 10. After School Activities: We have now ended the last trimester of After-School Activities. We hope the children had fun at these, and we do feel they are a key component of ISDl. Thanks to all the faculty who ran these, and also to the outside activity leaders. If you know someone who might be able to add an activity for K-Gr 5, please let Murray know, and he can pencil them in for next year. 11.
