Dear Parents,

Thanks to you all for coming out to the concerts this week, and I hope you also like the addition of the arts again; some impressive creativity. Next week we have Pre-K 3 and Gr 3 Assemblies plus a bake sale and an ASA assembly. All go!....

3. Kindergarten Bake Sale: From Ms. Gina:

Dear Parents,

Kindergarten is having our annual bake sales to raise funds for Nebaday: The Mangrove Project. Please support us by buying our baked treats next Thursday, May 28th and Friday, May 29th in front of the elementary playground during lunchtime. Each treat will be 500cfa.

Thank you for your support!

Ms. Gina

4. Transitions - From Ms. Pam:

Many of our children's sense of home may be very different to ours as we grew up; they may be in a second country and also a different educational system to their home country. Your children may be part of a group that some term "3rd culture children", and this may be something you have thought of in the past. Here are a few sites that you might find interesting: It's about helping kids thrive during transitions.  I plan to include the website in the revised brochure I hand out next year (this year's has already been distributed): http://www.thecultureblend.com/?p=1056

And then there is this one about expats left behind: http://www.thecultureblend.com/?p=1482

I have added Pam's letter - attached at the bottom of the blog....

5. 3C Inventions: 3C had been collecting trash with an eye to recycling as inventions. There were a lot of great ideas and this montage is from the ISD Facebook page:

6. 1G Publishing Party: These are from the Gr 1 publishers in Ms. Julienne's class where there was more creativity on display:

7. A Third Wonderful Booklist!: I have a third booklist for summer collections - this time from Barnes and Noble - CLICK HERE

8. Gr 3-5 Disco: There will be a Disco running from 6:00-8:30pm after school on Friday, May 29. The cost is 1,000cfa, it is in the gym, and it is only for Gr 3-5 students.

9. HS Can Crushers: There is now a box at the gate for recycling ALL metal cans. Please send them in and don't throw in your trash at home! This is a HS-inspired project from Alain, Nicolas and Enno!

Dear Parents,

We are a group of students who are engaging in a community service project. We are collecting all sorts of cans to recycle. As a part of our numerous endeavorswe would like students to bring cans from home to school and drop them in one of the recycling bins (next to the monitor at the entrance). We will then clean, crush and store the collected cans at ISD. Parents please encourage your children to participate, and students, participate in the project yourself! Doing this will save the environment and create jobs for people in Senegal.

Thank you in advance,

The Can Crushers (Alain, Nicolas and Enno)
