Dear Parents,

We are in the midst of Gr 2-5 MAP, and this is a time of year when we begin to reflect on our learning journey. It always strikes me how far the children have come through the year, and the changes we see in work and maturity. We are getting ready in our music classes for our concerts in a week, and there is plenty going on in the classes....

Notes:

1. Summer Camp: The spaces are filling up and at the moment we have will 51 children for Week 1 and 26 for week 2. The limit for each week is 70 students. I have attached the form to bring to Francois Diouf below.

2. World Cultural Month Slideshow: Thanks again to all who stood in a booth, worked with classes on dances and drums or paraded at the end!:

World Cultural Month Finale

3. Faculty and Staff Appreciation: Thank you to all who brought in desserts last Wednesday - they were amazing. It is the Staff Appreciation Day this coming Wednesday, so if your child would like to make a card for someone who works in and around school whom they know - Wednesday would be a good day to hand it to them. Thanks to the PTO for organizing the events.

4. Gr 2-5 MAP Testing Continues: These continue through next week, and again I would like to share the link to the NWEA's PARENT TOOLKIT, which may be of interest in particular to new ISD parents. We always hold follow-up meetings with faculty to discuss the results of all these sets of tests and reflect on how the year progressed for all of our students.

5. ISD Yard Sale: This if from our facilities manager, John Andrews:

6. Gr 3-5 Disco: There will be a Disco running from 6:00-8:30pm after school on Friday, May 29. The cost is 1,000cfa, it is in the gym, and it is only for Gr 3-5 students.

7. IB Yr 1 Performance: This is from Emily Grimes, the IB Year 1 Drama teacher:

The play is mainly suited to adults and older students, though Emily tells me while Gr 4 & 5 children may keep up with the fast-moving plot lines, there are obviously occasional murders....

8. ES Volleyball Tournament: There is a tournament here at ISD on Saturday, May 15. If you have a child taking part, please mark your calendars.

9. Gr 1 Service Learning: The 1st Grade students run a service project to raise money for school supplies for children they met on a field trip in Fass. Here they are selling the cards that they had made from photographs of the areas houses and views:

10. A Great Booklist: Here are some nice books for summer reading. I will share some lists each week as we run up to the break: 25 books to diversify your child's reading this summer!
