Dear Parents, We have our Pre-K 4W assembly next week, and our Spring Concerts will also soon be upon us the following week. Also, thanks for the cards, candies and kind words on teacher appreciation week. More below.... Notes: 1. Teacher Appreciation Lunch: I would like to start by thanking those of you who sent in cards and baked wonderful desserts for the teacher appreciation lunch. The teachers would like me to share their appreciation of you. Also, thanks to those PTO volunteers who coordinated this and stood on duty at lunch time. 2. Grade 3-5 Disco: The ES Student Council, supervised by Mr. Ishmael, Ms. Pam and Ms. Joy, will be running a disco in the gym this evening, Friday May 9, starting at 6:00. Please note that pick-up is at or before 8:30pm. 3. PTO Yard Sale: There is a Yard Sale coming tomorrow, on Saturday, May 10. I hear there are around 40 tables! Admission is free, and parents must wear their ISD ID badge. Friends of the ISD community are welcome to attend but must be signed in by an ISD community member. 4. Pre-K 4W Assembly Upcoming: A heads-up to the Pre-K 4W assembly that will be taking place Thursday 15th next week. This is an additional mid-month assembly date, but we'll have the usual CORE awards presented too. 5. Spring Concerts: Our concerts are well under preparation in Ms. Joy's music classes, and they'll take place at the following times: - K-2: Performance begins at 6:00 on Wednesday May 21 - 3-5: Performance begins at 6:00 on Thursday, May 22 All students must attend their class performances, as this is part of the curriculum. They'll need to go home to get smartly dressed, and be here by 5:45pm. Pre-K 3 and 4 classes will be inviting parents to attend an informance in an upcoming music class, so you can see how the Music class works. 6. Recycling Robots in KG B: I was lucky to catch Ms. Gina's class when they were starting the process of making their environmentally friendly robots. The first session the children sorted the boxes into categories according to shape, and then chose items to start the planning phase. 7. Elementary School Summer Camp: The Summer Camp will run from 9:00am - 3:00pm on June 16-20. This is only for Pre-K - Gr 5 students who are currently attending ISD, and parents who sent a form back showing interest will soon receive the sign-up form. The first 70 students will be enrolled - more on the camp will be sent home soon. If you have any inquiries, please do get in touch with Linda Bockarie, who is the program coordinator. 8. Parent Book Group 2014-15 Survey: During the 2014-2015 school year parents will be invited to participate in a book group that meets 3 times at 8:30am to discuss a parenting book of their choosing. In order to assist parents who prefer to buy a hard copy of the book this summer, we are sending the survey out now. In September, parents new to our community will be invited to join the book group. PE Swimming starts Monday!: A note to say that the K-5 PE swimming sessions will begin on Monday May 12. So please be ready to pack the swim gear on your K-5 child's PE day.
