Scholastic Book Sale through October 25

Dear ISD Parents,

Our Scholastic Book Club for the new school year is up and running! Go to
http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/internatin-school-dakkar to browse the latest English language books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this year's Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards. The books are typically written at an elementary or middle school reading level. Teacher books are also available.

Please place your order online and pay directly by October 25, 2017. We will not be accepting paper orders. All orders must be made online.

Please make sure to include your child's class along with his/her name (ex. Smith 2S). Please do not use the scholastic general website or your order will not be sent to the school. As a bonus, your child's teacher will get 20% of the value of all books ordered from their students as a credit to be used for purchasing class reading books.

Kindly note that Scholastic reserves the right to substitute for books not currently available. The books are expected to arrive in November.

Notre Club de livres scolaires pour la nouvelle année scolaire 2017 est en cour de redémarrer!
Pour l’achat des livres, visiter le siteweb: http://world-schools.scholastic.co.uk/internatin-school-dakkar pour parcourir les derniers livres en langue anglaise et commander en ligne. Pour chaque £1 que vous dépensez sur les livres de cette année, notre école gagnera 20points en récompenses scolaires. Les livres sont typiquement écrits pour les niveaux de lecture élémentaire ou intermédiaire (middle school). Des livres pour enseignants sont également disponibles a acheter en ligne a travers le meme lien donné sur dans ce message.

Veuillez passer votre commande en ligne et payer directement avant le 25 octobre 2017. Nous n'accepterons pas les commandes faite par papier. Toutes les commandes doivent être faites en ligne.

Aussi, assurez-vous d'inclure la classe de votre enfant avec son nom (ex. Smith 2S). Veuillez ne pas utiliser le siteweb général de l'école ou votre commande ne sera pas envoyée à l'école. En plus, l'enseignant de votre enfant recevra 20% de la valeur de tous les livres commandés à ses étudiants comme un crédit à utiliser pour l’acheter des livres de lecture de classe.

Veuillez noter que Scholastic se réserve le droit de remplacer des livres qui ne sont pas actuellement disponibles. Les livres devraient arriver en novembre.

PTO Events: Family Movie Night, Senegalese Cultural Talk

The PTO have organized two events for ISD parents and families: 
  • On Wednesday September 6, there will be a Senegalese cultural talk for new and existing parents. This will be an interesting insight into Senegalese culture and customs. Coffee and biscuits will be served!  This will be held in the ISD admin conference room from 8:30 - 9:30 am.
  • The PTO are hosting a family movie night in the PAC on Friday September 15 from 5pm-7pm.  Popcorn, pizza and drinks will be on sale. Movie to be confirmed!

ISD PTO Parent Welcome Event, August 22

ISD PTO Parent Welcome Event

Tuesday 22nd August 2017 6pm - 8pm

Location: Second floor balcony overlooking the auditorium.


The ISD PTO would like to invite all parents to a welcome event on Tuesday 22nd August between 6pm and 8pm.  There will be drinks and canapés served on the second floor balcony overlooking the auditorium. Come along and get to know other parents in an informal setting.  This event is for parents only.

Soiree Litteraire

Soirée Littéraire
If you are looking for a fun evening out, consider the Soiree Litteraire.  PTO has arranged for ten families to host ten different evening events.  These soirees will happen in their homes and they will provide good food and friendly conversation about the books you have all read.  Below are the details:

The 5th Annual Soirée Littéraire is scheduled for the month of April. Specific dates are April 5th, April 8th, April 11 and April 22.


The Soirée Littéraire is an adults-only PTO event where ISD parents, teachers and

staff host book-themed dinners in their homes. As in years past, this year’s Soirée Littéraire takes place during World Cultural Month, a great opportunity to celebrate and share the traditions we grew up with or adopted from the countries where we’ve lived.


On Wednesday April 5 we propose two dinner options :

  • In Other Rooms, Other Wonders by Daniyal Mueenuddin

  • The Crucible by Arthur Miller


On Saturday April 8 there are six options:

  • The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

  • The Man from Snowy River by A.B. "Banjo" Paterson

  • The Master and Margarita by Michail Bulgakov

  • Pakistan: A Personal History by Imran Khan

  • Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

  • South by Ernest Shakleton


On Tuesday April 11:

  • Exit West by Mohsin Hamid


On Saturday April 22:

  • Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.


Guests will enjoy a delicious dinner and meet new people, while supporting the PTO.

Tickets are 10,000 cfa per person.  This is a fundraiser for the PTO.

Tickets are now on sale after school near the front gate. If you cannot purchase your ticket in person, please email Kelly at kellych@faculty.isd.sn or call Gigia at 77 798 23 03 to reserve your tickets. Pick your top three dinner choices after reading the descriptions.


The descriptions do not include who will be hosting the dinner – the surprise is part of the fun! Prior to the dinner, we will send you the contact information and directions to your dinner location via email.

Les invités goûteront un dîner délicieux et rencontreront des nouvelles personnes, tout en soutenant le PTO. Les billets coutent 10 000 cfa par personne et les fonds seront versés au PTO. Les billets seront mis en vente à partir du 16 mars et seront vendus après l'école près de la porte d'entrée. Wrestling Match

The PTO and World Cultural Month Committee are organizing a Senegalese Lutte (wrestling) match to kick off April's World Cultural Month at ISD. Don't miss this spectacular family event on Friday, April 8 at 5pm. Tickets are 4,000 cfa per person (adult or child) and go on sale after school starting this Monday, March 14.

There are a limited number of tickets so be sure to buy them soon!

Come and join us for the second PTO meeting (Parent Teacher Organization) on MONDAY, February 1 at 2pm in the admin conference room.
 
Together we will be organizing events for you and your children from now until the end of the school year, and we are hoping for lots of helping hands.

Volunteers Needed

Happy New Year!  We hope you had a wonderful festive break and have come back refreshed and ready for the new term.

The first PTO meeting of the New Year will be next Thursday, 21 January at 8.30 am in the conference room in the admin building.  The main topic of discussion will be the putting together of a dynamic new PTO coordinating team.  We hope that you will be able to join us and that you will consider ways in which you can volunteer.

For those of you who missed the message posted in the Jaguar Journal on 11 December on this subject, please see below.

The PTO has wonderful, hard working volunteers. As many of you know, we run a series of community and fundraising events throughout the year, such as family fun days, the hugely popular soiree litteraire, Santa Sale, used book sale, and much more. These events can only take place if we have a strong team comprised of a leader and co-chairs.

Over the past few months, Jane Piot has been the interim Chair, assisted by Jen Grant, former PTO Chair. From January, Jane is not able to continue to chair as she has decided to return to working in public health. We are therefore looking for a dynamic, energetic person (or group of 2 persons) who would like to run the PTO team.

Please consider volunteering for this position – it’s incredibly rewarding! We are very hopeful that we will get a new team in place as soon as possible in order that the popular PTO-organised events throughout the calendar year can continue without a break.

Thank you to everyone who purchased Scholastic Books and to the PTO volunteers, particularly Maria Lynham who managed the Scholastic Book Sale. We earned lots of reward books for our classrooms!

Thank you, too, to all the Santa Sale volunteers who helped make it such a wonderful event for the students! We couldn’t have done it without so many parent and teacher helpers!

We wish everyone a restful, enjoyable vacation. Happy holidays to all!
